Good Laboratory Practice Series: Principles of Sample Collection

The course will emphasize the importance of collecting samples that represent the source matrix and maintaining the integrity of the sample until delivery to the laboratory. Also implicit in these objectives are understanding the objectives/reasons for collecting the samples, and ensuring that the selected site (or sites) accurately represent the goals of the sampling project.

The goal is to provide practical guidance and performance measures for field operations to consider when collecting samples.

This training series consists of the three sessions listed below. You may register to attend Sessions 1+2, Sessions 1+3, or all three sessions.

About the Presenter:
The principals of ELCAT, LLC collectively have over 70 years of experience in laboratory and field quality management. ELCAT, LLC provides extensive training of laboratory and field personnel in sampling techniques, quality management and training that addresses the requirements of the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (NELAP). It performs readiness audits for laboratories who desire to improve their quality system for the purposes of NELAP accreditation. ELCAT provides training and presentations on quality-related topics such as method performance, data integrity, corrective and preventive actions, root-cause analysis, data usability, and the role of quality managers. It is regularly asked to provide presentations at the Florida Society of Environmental Analysts (FSEA) meetings. ELCAT, LLC has also provided training and presentations for New York City, the State of Virginia, and The NELAC Institute (TNI).

Before retirement, the principals were actively involved in the production of a standard set of operating procedures for organizations that collected samples or performed field testing for data projects or compliance activities directly related to Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) programs. These SOPs, while written for Florida programs, have been widely recognized and used by other organizations. ELCAT, LLC is used exclusively by the University of Florida Center for Training, Research & Education for Environmental Occupations (TREEO) to provide off-site field activities training based on the DEP SOPs.
